With wood being the ultimate ecological choice in construction due to its renewable nature, it is only natural that Honka, in conjunction with its accredited dealers, has made a long term effort to make its production as environmentally friendly as possible.
The main strong points of log houses are their environmental friendliness and energy efficiency, this in return allows the homes to be both safe and to have a long life.
Honka’s environmental policy is based on sustainable and diverse forestry with full utilization of raw wood materials in production, packaging and construction while maintaining a high energy efficiency and waste management. Any non wood materials such as metal strappings, are either re-used in future deliveries or sent to specialised processing plants for re-use where possible.
Honka’s forestry professionals acquire raw wood in accordance with official regulations. Each member of the forest and environmental department has a nature management certificate. Honka’s environmental policy is committed to the Finnish Forest Certification System (FFCS).
Industrial production of solid wood requires a fraction of the energy required to produce other construction materials such as cement (50%), bricks (20%), or steel (less than 1%).
Through co-operative purchasing with other enterprises in the forest products, transportation has been made as efficient as possible further reducing the environmental impact caused by it.
